So my friend Gary fell off a third story balcony and slammed chest-first into a sidewalk late one Wednesday night in mid-August. Among his laundry list of injuries: two crushed vertebrae, two collapsed lungs, a concussion, two broken ribs, a dislocated right leg, a broken pelvic bone, and a lacerated spline and kidney.

I went to visit him in the ICU two days later and he actually looked really good, all things considered. He came back to work this past Saturday for the first time since then. He was walking perfectly, and even dancing. Isn't that just crazy? He should've been dead. Life definitely has a few tricks up her sleeves.

Wow. Just...wow. Some people are quite hilarious and others simply aren't. Isn't that something?

I haven't gotten on a computer in over a week. Not because I had to but just because I was too exhausted to focus on any kind of screen. And you know something, I didn't miss it at all!

I just moved into my new digs. I'm on the third floor and have a beautiful window view of the roof of the next building. But it's all gravy. The showers are kind of weird though. And I must say, it's really funny to have everyone ask you where you're from and automatically do a double-take. "Florida" definitely isn't the expected answer.

Out of Curiosity and Astonishment
What is the highest price you've seen a movie go for as a rental? As a DVD?

I really don't know what to think about this one movie I want. It's outrageous!

Ah, time to go
See you in two weeks. Have fun in the heat!

Honestly, I'm really excited to see all of my family again. Or at least the ones who can swallow their pride and forget petty grudges. That seems to be a big thing amongst people now. Pride and grudges. What's up with that?

a wasted hour closing in on a lovely day

Update for days #1-4 of Spring Break. Let's break it down:

- Took care of big sis for two days. Really feeling the stress of leaving in 8 days to live 3000+ miles away from us. I'm really happy about it.

- I do my own laundry for the most part, and I got unnaturally excited in the store the other day when I saw, oh yes, 100% Biodegradable Dryer Sheets made completely out of vegetables. Plus, they get rid of static cling. All I have to say is that they are wonderful! and work ver y well.

- I made biscuits from scratch this weekend. They were all gone within 24 hours by the aforementioned sister. I'm soon about to make more.

- Decided that when I go to California and Oregon this summer, Asia is going to get a letter/post card from both states, perhaps individual cities. And I swear they will get there in time. They have to.

- Been grooving NONSTOP to some RIDICULOUSLY COOL playlists of Funk music, as well as some of the best old skool Dance Music I know.

- Figured out that I dance like a dweeb, but it's so much fun I don't care. Also, cooking and dancing at the same time is a lot of fun.

So, all in all, not too much. But you guys know me and I don't normally do things.

         -Theresa

P.S. - I also got a myspace again, to talk with Heather when she leaves. Check it out, I have a groovy song up on my profile.

Psychological Evaluation of Preschool Children...

During the preschool years, when relational aggression first appears, adults are naturally more attuned to physical bullying. And rightfully so: the wounds from hitting and kicking at that age may be more serious than those from exclusion and gossiping. But the seeds of the destructive behavior are planted early. Consider this scenario between three 6-year-old girls:

Maya sits quietly at the classroom arts table. Next to her, Chantal and Zoe draw with colored pencils. "I'm drawing a whole field of flowers in front of my house," says Chantal.

"I'm wearing a fancy pink dress in this picture, Chantal, 'cause I'm going to your birthday party," says Zoe. She turns to Maya. "You can come to Chantal's party, too ... if you follow the rules."

Maya nods, and looks down at her empty paper. After a pause, she looks up at her best friend and says, "Zoe, I really do have to go to the bathroom! Please?"

Zoe shakes her head. "It's time to draw. You can't go while we're drawing. Those are just my rules. You have to follow them if you're our friend. Right, Chantal?"

The girls' teacher walks over. She sees Maya's blank paper. "Maya? What are you doing? If you don't start your work I'm going to have to put your name on the board."

What's going on? Zoe has made Maya the victim of her covert bullying, and compromised Maya's ability to take care of herself. In addition, Maya is unable to focus on her work.

Unfortunately, an easygoing child such as Maya will likely continue to be bullied during adolescence. Research shows that the victim role becomes stabilized by the time a child is 5. Girls who use relational aggression as effectively as Zoe may continue their behavior as well because they have developed habits of friendship, interaction, and fighting that are hard to break.

Yesterday I managed to lose approximately 3600 songs. Sure, I was lost and defeated for an hour, then the whole fiasco became hilarious and I had a rather jolly good time building everything back up. Now, close to 4000 in my possession, I reflect on yesterday.

Good Thing #1: Am I getting into The Microphones? HELL YES I AM! But I never, not once, not in my lifetime did I ever think that I would. Phil really is a genius!

Good Thing #2: Truly exciting, I've listened to 3 new songs performed my Mirah herself. None of which I know the name, two of which I don't know how to turn into mp3 format, but one that I have on iTunes.

Good Thing #3: With the arrival/find of the aforementioned #2, I'm expecting a new record around May, maybe late April, but May seems safe. I've heard one love song (truly exquisite, brazilian style groove), one folkish tune (but definitely not lacking on the pizazz), and one that leaves me wondering in a good way. That last one takes my mind away, in a good way. It reminds me of a poem we had to read in Dr. Anthony's class, the one about the dear on the road late at night on the cliff, pregnant.

Good Thing #4: The Blow is reissuing Poor Aim: Love Songs (hopefully on CD and not just LP) on April 24, with fourteen or so songs total, the latter of the album being remixes. I like remixes. Good stuff, good stuff.

I've fallen off the wagon, Juliet. I don't care, it was all worth it.

Yes, I've watched television this week, and it was wonderful.

MUSIC!!

Now you all know how I get about music, but I don't go cramming it down your throats...well, not constantly.

But seriously, check this song out. I've been digging it for a super long time now and it never stops hitting me hard.

New Years' Day!!!
Have a great one, you! Hope you brought it in with some vigor.

And please answer me this, are you allowed to tell your resolutions? Are they like birthday cake wishes? I always forget.
I made two this year. I think I have a good shot at keeping them, as well as remembering what the hell I resolved to do.
